BUILDING PROGRESS

The Expansion programme necessitates the conversion of the shopping complex purchased by the Haji Omar Trust to a praying area.  This meant that the 32 tenants had to be relocated and or compensated for the loss of goodwill on account of the many years of operations of their business in this area.  After a long and tedious process of negotiations and a kind gesture by one of the trustees by a donation of a building nearby the shops were acquired and the transfer process has been successfully completed.  Alhamdhulillah the original shops of the Haji Omar Trust is now in the possession of the Masjid and these shops have been demolished in order to connect to the existing masjid. This is being done by the construction of the new structure to blend with the old structure.

Alhamdhu lillah the expansion project is now in progress with the help of Almighty Allah. Please see the building progress pictures hereunder.

Insha Allah the new state of the art masjid will comprise of

  • A four storied structure consisting of 50,000 square feet to facilitate nearly 10,000 praying at a time.
  • Executive members can meet in the spacious hall and discuss current issues relating to community in particular and general social issues.
  • The expansion unit would have rest rooms helping the traveling public, tourists, and those ready to perform Haj & Umrah
  • Provision for helping ladies for praying and resting during Fajr & Isha
  • The aged can use the escalators
  • The Aalims, Muezzins and workers can rest in planned accommodation fitted with rest room
  • Facility in contemporary style for Wudu

To cater the above facilities and for the payment of compensation to the occupants of the shop, the project which started last year at an estimated to cost around Rs. 150million (approx. USD1.4m) is now estimated to cost around Rs. 260million i.e., (USD 2.4m). The expansion project has commenced with the relocation of the 32 shops, payment of compensation, demolishing of the existing building and the structural work from funds that have been already collected.  However, there is still a big shortfall on the funds required and your financial assistance in this regard would be greatly appreciated.  You may be an Individual, Non- governmental Organization, Business or Foreign Embassy whether in Sri Lanka in any part of the world, your assistance would be of great value to us!
